Mythologique Sterling Silver by Gorham is quite an amazing antique pattern. It was created in the year 1894 by French silversmith Florentin Antoine Heller who Gorham hired as its chief designer from the years 1881 to 1904. Each piece features one of 24 unique, hand-modeled figures and scenes from ancient Greek and Roman classical mythology, surrounded by ornate detailing.
The pattern was briefly revived and re-struck in the 1990's under Gorham's "Masterpiece Program" and met with mixed reviews. The strike of the newer pieces was weak and the pattern details were not very crisp. These newer pieces also lacked the black oxidation that is typically present on the older items. To our knowledge there was a whole lot of the re-makes made and thank goodness.
The patern in todays antique silver market is highly collectible. Prices vary depending on condition.
